FAQs

Below we have answers to some common questions which we receive.

If you cannot find an answer to your question, please use the contact form to send us a message.

  • The current situation is that we CAN send seeds outside of the UK. We will send seeds to the European Union and other countries. Any non-UK seed orders should be emailed to sylvaticanursery@yahoo.com and you will then receive a PayPal invoice from us.
At the moment, we regret we are not able to send plants, bulbs or tubers outside of the UK. In fact, we cannot send to Northern Ireland either (so outside of GB). This is due to the legal situation post-Brexit. The regulations on exporting plants make it prohibitively expensive for an operation such as SYLVATICA. This applies both to the European Union and other countries outside of GB (including Northern Ireland). We hope this situation will change in the future.

  • We will despatch your purchases to you at the best time of year for them to be sent. For bulbs and tubers, this will be when they are dormant. For other plants, this will usually be when they are quiescent. The product description will give you an indication of when you can expect to receive the plants, in most cases.
This may mean that you have to wait a few months to receive your plants from SYLVATICA. Seeds are usually sent out within a week of purchase.

  • A collection number identifies a particular collection of a plant or seed from the wild. It is specific to a date and location and identifies the individual or group of people who collected the plant. Regardless of how that plant is later classified (or reclassified), it will keep the same collection number. Thus, it can be used to trace plants in cultivation back to a particular wild collection. A collection number usually consists of capital letters and numerals and, if relevant, we record the collection number in brackets after the name of the plant, e.g. (ACE2031). If your purchase from SYLVATICA has a collection number attributed to it, please retain that number.

  • “syn.” is an abbreviation of “synonym”.
We always try to use the most up-to-date scientific name for plants. However, these names can occasionally change. Where a plant is well-known by an alternative previous name, we have included this synonym as well for clarity.
